MIDDLE EAST PUMP SALES TO EXCEED $2 BILLION NEXT YEAR

The Middle East pump market is set to boom! Countries in the Middle East will spend nearly $2.2 billion for pumps next year. This is the latest forecast in Pumps World Market, published by the McIlvaine Company in 1914.
Countries included in the totals are:

- Other Middle East
- Saudi Arabia
- Syrian Arab Republic
- Turkey
- United Arab Emirates
Separate forecasts by industry and pump type for each of the next five years are provided for each of the eight countries and one aggregation of small countries.
Smaller countries include:
- Afghanistan
- Armenia
- Bahrain
- Cyprus
- Gaza Strip
- Jordan
- Kuwait
- Lebanon
- Oman
- Qatar
- West Bank
- Yemen
The largest market is oil and gas and accounts for 26 percent of the total. An equal amount will be spent by municipalities for water and wastewater. Desalination is a very big market in the region. Israel leads the way with a huge desalination program. In a decade where total fresh water supply has been sharply reduced, Israel has built enough desalination capacity to easily supply its own demands.
There is a trend toward increased use of reverse osmosis (RO) rather than thermal desalination. The pump expenditure is much higher in plants using the RO approach due to the high osmotic pressures which must be overcome.
